An Interview with Saniyyah Bilal: A Bridal Stylist with a Vision
An interview with the owner of Weddings by Saniyyah, bridal stylist, Saniyyah Bilal.
There are certain creatives in the bridalsphere whose work doesn’t just follow new trends—it quietly shapes them. Saniyyah Bilal is one of those rare, inspiring voices who, before founding Weddings by Saniyyah, cultivated a strong visual language as a model. She developed an intuitive understanding of style, movement, and how every detail tells a visual story both on and off camera. Her background in Fashion Industry Management and International Apparel Business aligned with modeling is woven beautifully into her work, so that each styling descision feels effortless.
Saniyyah naturally has a sharp eye for design, but it’s her presence that truly sets her apart. As she works with each client, (whether she’s a bride, flower girl, bridesmaid or professional — because she is not limited to just weddings!) Saniyyah brings a warmth, a gentle touch, and a genuinely big heart into every experience. As a friend and a fellow small business owner, I’ve had the privilege of seeing her sincere, raw talent, and how she pours care into her clients and uplifts those around her with ease.
At Jamillah Bridal, I believe deeply in the power of women—especially Black women business owners—supporting and elevating one each other. Our industry is growing stronger, richer, and more meaningful when we consistently choose collaboration. I’m truly honored to sit down with her today and highlight her passion for style and the story behind her work!
Meet Saniyyah Bilal
“I really lean into embracing the idea of having the best for yourself on such a special day and moment. Your wedding day deserves nothing less than perfection—starting with how you look and feel,”
— Saniyyah
Welcome to Jamillah Bridal! Can you tell us a little about your background?
Salaam, my name is Saniyyah Bilal, and I'm a traveling Bridal Wardrobe Director with 11 years of experience in wardrobe styling. I attended Philadelphia University where I received my B.S. in Fashion Industry Management and my MBA in International Business (specifically International Apparel Business Studies). I'm based in Philadelphia, PA but travel for weddings worldwide upon request. Outside of weddings, I enjoy fashion modeling, volunteering at my local girl scouting troop, ballet, tie dyeing, and eating water ice!
How did you get started as a wedding stylist?
I was a bridal stylist for Bijou Bridal and loved it so much! As a stylist, it's a unique opportunity to be able to identify a need working with many brides during their gown search that led me to find my niche of wedding wardrobe styling which is truly very rewarding. I've been doing personal wedding fashion styling for 10 years now. My educational background in fashion industry management and international apparel business laid the foundation, but it's been the joy of working with brides at Bijou and then building my own business that's kept me inspired. There's something incredibly special about helping couples look and feel their absolute best on one of the most important days of their lives.
What inspires you to help new couples?
I really lean into embracing the idea of having the best for yourself on such a special day and moment. Your wedding day deserves nothing less than perfection—starting with how you look and feel. I get inspired by the connections I build with my couples. I especially enjoy making my ladies feel extraordinary and deserving of luxury treatment! There's something incredibly meaningful about being part of such an important day and ensuring that couples feel confident, beautiful, and stress-free so they can focus on celebrating their love. Each couple's love story is unique, and I'm honored to help create wedding wardrobes that reflect that.
I’m sure all the new brides out there want to know what it’s like working with you! Can you describe a typical styling experience?
We typically start with a consultation—the first one is a 30-minute discovery call where we discuss your wardrobe vision and needs. This is the perfect time to see if we're a good fit to work together. You're not required to book any of my services after this call, but I hope you do! From there, we work together through personalized consultations to determine the perfect formal look that complements both your style and the wedding aesthetic. The number of appointments depends on your needs and package—whether you need help with just the wedding day, or if we're styling pre-wedding events, engagement shoots, rehearsal dinners, nikah and/or walimah for my Muslim brides and grooms, and everything in between.
What should I bring to my first in-person appointment?
During our appointments, we have personalized consultations where we really dive into what you envision for your wedding day look. Come prepared to share your ideas, inspiration photos, and any specific concerns you might have. If you already have pieces like your wedding gown, bringing those or photos of them helps us coordinate everything perfectly. The earlier you book, the better—I recommend at least 2-3 months before your wedding if you already have your wedding gown.
What if a bride is having a hard time finding the right gown? Will come shopping and help her “say yes to the dress”?
Yes! That is where I got my start. If applicable, we will start with the dress styles that you think you like from photos or social media content. I will assess and recommend the best wedding dress styles based on your body type, budget and theme/aesthetic. I always tell my clients it’s best to shop for the size that you are, especially a wedding gown. If my client does fluctuate with her dress size, I will establish the best process of how to choose a style and shop for a gown. If you need help with wedding gown shopping, I recommend booking at least 1 year before your wedding so we have plenty of time to find the perfect dress without any stress.
Will you also help with accessories, such as shoes, perfume, jewelry, or even a purse?
Absolutely! Accessories are where the intricate memories of the wardrobe live. I have hand sewn a bride’s “something blue” as a surprise from her maid of honor. It was sewn into the bodice of her wedding gown. When the bride was getting dress it was even more emotional and meaningful when she saw it! I love being a part of these moments! Weddings by Saniyyah offers complete outfit styling for all your wedding events and even your bridal party. I coordinate every detail to ensure your entire look comes together beautifully. I source special pieces as needed, suggest hair and make-up looks and make sure everything complements both your personal style, your bridal party and the overall wedding aesthetic.
What about Muslim brides? Do you help with hijab styling?
Yes! As a luxury personal styling service that works with Muslim women for their nikah and walimah, I understand the importance of hijab styling + security, hair protection under the hijab and ensuring that every element of your look is beautiful, unique, modest, and reflects who you are.
Weddings can be emotional and sometimes overwhelming! If I'm a new bride and I don't know where to start, will you be able to hold my hand and help me figure everything out?
That's exactly what I'm here for. We'll start with that initial consultation to understand your vision, and from there I'll guide you through every step of the process. Whether it's finding the right under garments, gown based on your body type + budget, giving make-up and hair style suggestions, referring my preferred vendors for flowers, alterations, dress designers + shops etc, coordinating you and your bridal party’s entire wedding weekend wardrobe, or planning multiple outfit changes for your celebration, I'll help you create a personalized luxury styling experience so you and your bridal party can have the wedding you always dreamt of.
What if a bride has a very specific vision for her wedding day and her family has their hands full…how can you help with just the bride and only her needs? (In other words, how do you deliver “peace of mind”?)
On your wedding day, I prep the gowns, bustle the dress, execute second changes, and resolve any fashion emergencies which expands beyond the gown specifically. I work closely with the photographer and wedding planners when taking photos to ensure all elements of the gown and accessories are intact while also protecting the integrity of the gown throughout the service and photos such as putting down fabric or plastic on the ground under the gown. I bring an emergency styling kit with fashion tape, sewing supplies, and touch-up essentials, plus handle timeline management for getting ready. I bring my complete styling kit, full of tools to make you comfortable and help resolve fashion emergencies such as if you or your bridal party’s feet hurt, it starts raining, your bustle malfunctions, a groomsmen loses or can’t tie his bow tie, someone gets a stain on their dress, your dress doesn’t fit, you need a quick sewing fix, your veil or dress rips, you need an extra pair shoes, you need sweat protection, you need a fan, your petticoat was not delivered on time and so much more.
Can you explain how your process works? What should I expect?
The process begins with our initial 30-minute consultation. From there, depending on which package you choose, I provide complete styling services for your engagement shoot, rehearsal dinner, wedding day, nikah and/or walimah, and even honeymoon. All packages include 8 hours a day, with extra time available per request. I handle everything from sourcing outfits and hijabs to dressing you and your bridal party on the day, steaming, last-minute adjustments, bustling, outfit changes, and making sure you look flawless throughout your celebration.
What's one piece of advice you wish every bride or newlywed couple would know?
Don't let the stress of coordinating your wardrobe take away from enjoying this special time. That's exactly why services like mine exist—so you can focus on celebrating your love while I handle every fashion detail. The earlier you book, the more relaxed and prepared you'll feel. Your love story is extraordinary, and your wedding wardrobe should reflect that.
Will you help me on my wedding day?
Yes! Wedding day assistance is a core part of my service. I'm there to provide professional assistance with dressing, steaming, and last-minute adjustments to ensure you look flawless as you walk down the aisle. I resolve fashion emergencies, work with your photographer to ensure perfect shots, and manage all the wardrobe logistics so you can be fully present and enjoy every moment of your day. By the end of the wedding most people say they did not realize how valuable and helpful my services would be. They could not have gotten through the day as smoothly with my services. I also come baring special surprises for my brides!
Sometimes the most meaningful work is rooted in intention. Thank you so much Saniyyah for joining us today on the blog! I’m grateful to celebrate you here, and even more excited to watch all that continues to unfold for your growing business!
